Policies
CUHK is committed to providing fair access to its educational resources, regardless of ethnicity, religion, disability, immigration status or gender. The Diversity and Inclusion Policy and the Policy on Equal Opportunities emphasize the rights of all members to equal access and opportunities in academic pursuits, while the Admissions Policy clearly states that admissions at the University are based on merit, using consistent selection criteria, and are directed towards the selection of students who have the academic competence and motivation to benefit from the programmes which they intend to follow, irrespective of their origins, age and circumstances.
Teaching and learning
In 2022 CUHK joined Future17, taking its place among a consortium of universities from four continents. This multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary programme, initiated by the University of Exeter and Quacquarelli Symonds Limited, offered students from participating universities the opportunity to collaborate in developing and implementing solutions for achieving the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) globally. Participants first received training on SDGs and design thinking and were then assigned to international, interdisciplinary and multicultural teams. Each team was tasked with designing innovative sustainability solutions. Through the programme, students had the opportunity to study complex real-world global issues and gain experience in collaborating with overseas peers to develop practical solutions.
Nurturing global leaders
The Global Leadership Programme at CUHK, a new initiative launched in 2024, facilitates students’ career development through classroom training and experiential learning. Through training workshops, a team-building camp, a Japan exploration tour and mentoring experiences, 20 CUHK cadet leaders gained skills in cross-cultural competency and leadership at their earlier career development stage. In April 2025, the programme culminated in a final presentation where students addressed important global issues, namely sustainability, diversity and inclusion, ageing populations and poverty. Six awardees were given the chance to pursue overseas summer internships, further honing the skills they had developed as cadet leaders.
Education outreach in secondary schools
Since 2019, CUHK has been working in partnership with secondary schools across Hong Kong on the CUHK Jockey Club AI for the Future Project. The Project aims to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) literacy into the school curriculum, equipping students with the AI skills necessary for the future workplace. The AI for the Future Summer Camp, held on 25–26 August 2025 at CUHK, aimed to enhance AI knowledge among students through workshops and hands-on activities. These activities prized creative thinking, problem-solving and logic building. By nurturing young talent in the field of innovation and facilitating exchange among teachers, the Project will contribute to the advancement of AI education and applications in Hong Kong.
The award ceremony of the CUHK Faculty of Engineering’s Assessment Scheme for Engineering and Technology Education (ASSETE programme) was held on 12 July 2025, to honour outstanding students. Launched in September 2022, the programme has developed an assessment framework aligned with international STEM standards. In its second phase, which was launched in 2024, it has successfully trained and assessed over 1,600 primary and secondary school students.
Experiential learning in career preparation
CUHK has launched initiatives to enhance career preparation for students through experiential learning in Shanghai. The aim is to nurture talent by collaborating with enterprises to provide students with varied exchange opportunities and internship experiences, thereby expanding their career prospects. In recent years more than 500 CUHK students participated in career development programmes in Shanghai and gained practical experience. Between 25 and 30 May 2025, the ‘Hong Kong Students Experiential Learning Programme 2025’ offered a six-day enterprise visit and career exploration in Shanghai for CUHK new graduates and students. Partnerships with Shanghai enterprises have provided invaluable internship and job opportunities to students, allowing them to connect with industry leaders and gain in-depth insights into the city’s innovative industries and development landscape.
